The Great Eighth Grade Walk
By Bella Pack, Josaline Lombard, and Hayden Foster
Recently, the eighth graders read A Long Walk to Water by Linda Park. The book has two accounts. Both take place in Sudan, but in different years. One is of an eleven year old girl named Nya, who walks about eight hours a day to get water for her family. The other account is of an eleven year old boy named Salva, who has to leave his village due to war. Salva has to walk all day for a very long time while he is trying to reach safety and find his family, and faces many challenges.
On Monday, Nov 21, 2022, the eighth graders are going to take on a fun challenge of their own. They will be walking around the football track from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Halloween Activities in PC
By Bella Pack, Josaline Lombard, & Caleb Poage
It’s finally October, meaning it’s fall and Halloween is nearing. Pierce City’s got some pretty spooky stuff planned. The little kids will go trick or treating, and the older kids will go to haunted houses. But what else is going on in Pierce City for Halloween? Well, on October 28th, the middle school student council will be hosting a dodgeball tournament. Any middle schoolers who want to participate need a team of five girls and five boys, as well as five dollars per player ($50 total). The money is due by Friday, October 21st.
Everyone is welcome to come to the Ghouls in the School, which is a Pierce City tradition that the high school is bringing back. There will be several spook-tastic rooms for people of all ages to enjoy. It’ll be good enough for teens, and kid friendly at the same time! The middle school FBLA and student council will also be hosting rooms in this event. The Ghouls in the School will be on October 29th, in the evening. There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome. We encourage everyone to join us for some Halloween fun!

Three Wishes
By: Bella Pack, Josaline Lombard, & Caleb Poage
Everybody wishes for something all the time. But if you were offered three wishes, what would you wish for? Would you waste them on things you would regret later, or something you would agree with ten years from now? Be smart about what you wish for, even if you’re not given three magical wishes. Always make smart choices and focus on the positive things in life. Don’t worry about wealth and fame, but rather set your mind on more important things. Afterall, you only live everyday once, (unless you find a genie and ask to be able to travel in time, but that’s not the point).
Students Interviewed:
We asked a student from each grade (two from 12th):
If you could have three wishes, what would you wish for and why?
Wish one:
“Uh, I don’t know. To have a phone because I don’t have one.” -Maria
“I would wish that Caleb was only an inch tall, so if he wouldn’t be quiet I could step on him.” -Owen
“I have no idea. But I wish I didn't have to go to school anymore.” -Molly
“Money. I can give some of my money to my family.” -Peyton
“Probably money, so I can get whatever I want.” -Kaylee
“That’s a hard question to answer. I wish to be wealthy, because it makes life easier. It’s hard to get to, but it makes life easier in the end.” -Garret
“I would wish to be healthy for the rest of my life because health is important and I don’t want to die.” -Jillian
“First, I’d wish for more wishes.” -Adlyn

Wish three:
Summer
By: Bella Pack, Josaline Lombard, & Caleb Poage
Everyone loves summer. And even if you don’t, you probably at least love not having school. Summer is a time of freedom. Everyone spends their summer doing different stuff, such as camping, swimming, and spending time with friends and family, all without having to worry about grades and schoolwork. But sadly, summer is coming to an end.
The wind is blowing a little bit colder, which is a relief from the heat of summer, but the excitement of summer is ending. School’s back, meaning more responsibilities and learning. Here’s what a few students have to say about their opinion of summer, and what they are looking forward to in fall.
Students Interviewed:
Lily Eden(6th grade)
Channing Cunningham(6th grade)
Payton Pendleton(7th grade)
Layla Jones(7th grade)
Lincoln Jones(8th grade)
Kennedy Marshall (8th grade)
What do you love most about summer?
What do you do in the summer?
What are you going to miss most about summer?
What are you looking forward to in the fall months?

Adjusting to Middle School
By: Bella Pack, Josie Lombard, & Caleb Poage
Hello, middle school and high school students and welcome back to school! Our goal each year is to be better than the last, and I think we will be. Things are certainly different for this year’s sixth graders. Afterall, this is their first year up the hill! I think everyone remembers their first year of middle school, and the way things suddenly change.
You have to be more responsible, you can’t waste time between classes, and you have to be more independent. And, yes, like these kids have said, you definitely get more freedom. You also get lockers to put your work in because you can’t fit anymore in your thousand pound backpack, don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. All the knowledge from elementary school has prepared you for middle school so have fun and good luck.
